France recognises the HKDSE, and the pathways are wider than most HK families realise.
🎓 HKDSE = Baccalauréat
Good news: France officially recognises the HKDSE as equivalent to the French baccalauréat — the standard French secondary school diploma. This means HKDSE holders are eligible to apply to French higher education on the same basis as French students.
No foundation year. No bridging course. No waiting.

🗓️ When should I apply?
This is the most important decision — and most HK families get it wrong.
The recommended approach: apply DURING your DSE year, not after.
Why? France’s academic year starts in September. If you wait until your DSE results are released in mid-July to start applying, you’ve already missed the application window for that September intake. You’d then need to wait a full year to start in September of the following year — meaning a 12-month gap year.
